Amir of Hizb ut-Tahrir | Political Thinker | Scholar of Usul
Welcome to the official page of the eminent scholar Ata Bin Khalil Abu al-Rashtah, the Amir of Hizb ut-Tahrir, who has dedicated his life and thought to the vital issue of the Muslims: the resumption of the Islamic way of life by establishing the Khilafah Rashidah (Rightly Guided Caliphate).
Upbringing and Roots
Sheikh Ata was born in 1362 AH (1943 CE) in the village of Ra'na in the district of Hebron (al-Khalil) in blessed Palestine. His eyes opened in early childhood to the Nakba of Palestine in 1948, where his family was forced to move to the refugee camps of Hebron. Despite the harshness of life and displacement, he completed his education with excellence, later graduating from Cairo University in 1966 CE with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
Combining Knowledge and Action
Sheikh Ata represents a unique model of combining precise scientific specialization with deep immersion in the Shari'ah sciences. While working as a civil engineer and authoring reference books on quantity surveying and building supervision, he delved into the depths of Islamic culture, studying and teaching within the circles (halaqat) of Hizb ut-Tahrir, which he joined in the mid-fifties.
The Journey of Da’wah and Steadfastness
The Sheikh lived through the era of the party's founding leaders, working closely with the founding Sheikh Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani and Sheikh Abdul Qadeem Zalloum (may Allah have mercy on them). In the nineties, his name emerged as one of the most prominent political figures in Jordan in his capacity as the official spokesperson for Hizb ut-Tahrir. He became known for his boldness in truth and for challenging oppressors, which led to his frequent arrest. He spent long periods in the prisons of injustice, remaining patient and seeking reward from Allah, his resolve never weakening and his will never breaking.
Leading the Procession (The Leadership)
On April 13, 2003 CE (corresponding to 14 Safar 1424 AH), and following the resignation of Sheikh Abdul Qadeem Zalloum due to health reasons, the members of Hizb ut-Tahrir gave their bay'ah (oath of allegiance) to Sheikh Ata Abu al-Rashtah as the Amir of the party, to carry the heavy trust and lead the vessel of the da'wah amidst the turbulent waves of international politics.
Intellectual and Scholarly Legacy
Sheikh Ata's leadership is characterized by a wealth of intellectual production and active engagement with the issues of the Ummah. He has enriched the Islamic library with works considered references in their field, including:
- At-Taysir fi Usul at-Tafsir (Facilitation in the Principles of Exegesis): A unique methodology for understanding the Book of Allah.
- Taysir al-Wusul ila al-Usul (Facilitating the Attainment of the Foundations): A deep yet accessible study of Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Jurisprudence).
- Azamat Iqtisadiyyah (Economic Crises): A diagnosis of the reality of the capitalist economy and the presentation of Islamic solutions.
- At-Taysir fi an-Nahw (Facilitation in Grammar): A simplification of the rules of the Arabic language.
The Sheikh is also keen, through his electronic platforms, on direct communication with the people of the Ummah, answering their jurisprudential and political questions and providing them with advice on every occurring event (nazilah).
We ask Allah to protect him, guide his steps, and bring goodness and victory to the Ummah at his hands.
