Answer to a Question

To Amer al-Haj Jab

Question:

Assalamu Alaikum our Ameer, I want to ask: what is my role in the effort to establish the State while I do not possess the capabilities for that? I am waiting for the answer. I seek guidance from you, for I am confused and no longer know who to be with. I ask you by Allah, what should I do?

Answer:

Wa Alaikum Assalam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

O brother, indeed Allah does not burden a soul except with what it can bear. People differ in their abilities, in their mastery of Da'wah work, and their excellence in conveying it. They also differ in their educational and intellectual attainment, and in the wisdom of presenting issues. Likewise, they differ in the breadth of their knowledge of the Book of Allah (swt) and the Sunnah of His Messenger (saw)... These matters exist among human beings, and the obligation is according to one's ability... This is clear in the verses of the Wise Remembrance and the Hadith of the Messenger of Allah (saw):

Allah (swt) says:

"Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity." (Surah Al-Baqarah [2]: 286)

And He (swt) says:

لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا مَا آتَاهَا

"Allah does not charge a soul except [according to] what He has given it." (Surah At-Talaq [65]: 7)

The Messenger (saw) says:

لَا تَحْقِرَنَّ مِنْ الْمَعْرُوفِ شَيْئًا وَلَوْ أَنْ تَلْقَى أَخَاكَ بِوَجْهٍ طَلْق

"Do not belittle any good deed, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face." (Narrated by Muslim)

The Messenger (saw) says:

بَلِّغُوا عَنِّي وَلَوْ آيَةً

"Convey from me, even if it is a single verse." (Narrated by Al-Bukhari)

On the authority of Zaid bin Thabit: The Prophet (saw) said:

نَضَّرَ اللَّهُ امْرَأً سَمِعَ مِنَّا حَدِيثًا فَحَفِظَهُ فَبَلَّغَهُ، فَرُبَّ حَامِلِ فِقْهٍ لَيْسَ بِفَقِيهٍ

"May Allah brighten [the face of] a person who hears a Hadith from us, memorizes it, and conveys it; for perhaps a carrier of knowledge is not himself a person of understanding." (Narrated by At-Tabarani in Al-Kabir)

So, my brother, you can enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil to the best of your ability. You can convey a verse or two, and it is not a condition that you must be among those who have memorized the Noble Qur'an and the Honorable Sunnah in order to enjoin good and forbid evil. Rather, it is according to your capacity. Seek help from Allah and put your trust in Him, for Allah protects the righteous.

Your brother, Ata Bin Khalil Abu al-Rashtah
